Gitcoin Passport collects stamps to prove experiences on the chain

Gitcoin, an open-source software funding platform, has announced that it is building a citizen’s Passport for a decentralized network, the Gitcoin Passport, which will enable parties to verify a user’s identity without an intermediary. Users will be able to participate in communities and Dapps to obtain a seal to help develop their reputation on the blockchain.

Gitcoin Passport introduces Gitcoin: “Many emerging applications of blockchain, such as P2E gaming, quadratic funding, and on-chain voting, assume that each community participant is acting in good faith.

However, since pseudonyms are allowed on the blockchain, how do you build a reputation in a trust-free environment without sacrificing user privacy?”

To address this issue, the Gitcoin team is currently developing a decentralized “Gitcoin Passport” that allows users to collect stamps from various web2 and web3 authenticators,

Such as Proof of Humanity, POAP or ENS.

These stamps are verifiable credentials. After integration with Passport, protocol parties do not have to rely on intermediaries to verify user identity. Instead, they can use a custom algorithm to check the stamps held by users and weight the different stamps according to their needs.

In other words, it allows communities to create customizable visas based on their needs.

For example, joining a developer community requires a Github seal, while artist groups require a Foundation seal.

“Just as college degrees, bills paid, and awards lead to substantial offline reputations, we believe that online reputations can be helped by participating in communities and using Dapps (which use blockchain tracking) to verify online identities.”

Said the dead simple.

Through the establishment of decentralized identification card, it can effectively defend against witch attack and protect users’ privacy.

In addition, the Passport’s scoring algorithm and verifiable credentials allow Gitcoin Grants to check a user’s identity without looking at personally identifiable information.

The Gitcoin Passport is currently available, allowing you to connect your wallet to different websites and protocols to obtain a seal, and also allowing protocol parties to integrate this functionality.
