Japan’s Nikkei 225 Records a 1.33% Decline in Tuesday’s Trade

The Japanese stock market closed on a lower note on Tuesday, with the Nikkei 225 index experiencing a 1.33% decline. The downward trend was primarily influenced by losses in key sectors, including Mining, Automobiles & Parts, and Manufacturing.

Among the notable performers during this session on the Nikkei 225, CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751) demonstrated strength by gaining 2.70%, equivalent to 22.60 points, closing at 858.70. Subaru Corp (TYO:7270) also showed positive movement, with an increase of 2.41% or 62.50 points, concluding the session at 2,659.50. Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (TYO:7911) witnessed an uptick of 2.22%, adding 79.00 points to reach 3,636.00 during late trading.

Conversely, the session saw some notable underperformers, including Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which experienced a substantial decline of 6.21%, translating to 285.00 points, closing at 4,303.00. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) observed a decrease of 5.32% or 590.00 points, concluding the session at 10,495.00. Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) recorded a 3.96% dip, losing 940.00 points and closing at 22,770.00.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange reported a higher number of falling stocks, totaling 2863, compared to 800 advancing ones. Additionally, 209 stocks ended the session unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility index, reflecting the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, increased by 4.79% to 17.06.

In the commodities market, crude oil for January delivery saw a minor increase of 0.05%, equivalent to 0.04, reaching $73.08 per barrel. In contrast, Brent oil for February delivery experienced a slight decline of 0.03% or 0.02, settling at $78.01 per barrel. The February Gold Futures contract rose by 0.45%, gaining 9.25 points to trade at $2,051.45 per troy ounce.

Currency markets witnessed the USD/JPY pair decline by 0.23% to 146.85, while the EUR/JPY pair fell by 0.24% to 159.14.

The US Dollar Index Futures reported a minor decrease of 0.07%, closing at 103.57.
