Japanese stocks concluded Monday’s trading session on a positive note, with gains observed in the Paper & Pulp, Banking, and Chemical sectors.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index rose by 0.37%.
Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 during the session were Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO: 7003), posting a remarkable increase of 10.19% or 65.00 points, closing at 703.00. Additionally, NTT Data Corp. (TYO: 9613) experienced a gain of 4.52%, adding 87.00 points to conclude at 2,011.50, while Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO: 3099) was up by 2.65%, or 40.00 points, reaching 1,547.50 by the session’s end.
Conversely, the worst performers included Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO: 9107), registering a decline of 8.60% or 569.00 points, closing at 6,047.00. Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO: 9101) saw a decrease of 6.54%, losing 300.00 points to end at 4,290.00, and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO: 9104) was down by 5.62%, falling 265.00 points to reach 4,447.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with 2378 stocks declining, 1331 advancing, and 196 remaining unchanged.
Shares in Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO: 7003) rose to 3-year highs, gaining 10.19% or 65.00 to 703.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.49% to 16.81.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery fell by 0.54%, amounting to 0.40, reaching $73.49 a barrel. Elsewhere, Brent oil for delivery in March fell by 0.26%, hitting 0.21, and trading at $78.80 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose by 0.64%, reaching 13.20, and trading at $2,064.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY remained unchanged at 142.41, while EUR/JPY fell by 0.13% to 156.80.
The US Dollar Index Futures showed a decline of 0.12%, closing at 101.36.
