Japan stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the Nikkei 225 rising by 2.08% to achieve a new 5-year high. The main contributors to these gains were observed in the Precision Instruments, Transportation Equipment, and Services sectors.
Noteworthy performers in this session on the Nikkei 225 include Kyocera Corp. (TYO:6971), marking a 6.09% increase, Olympus Corp. (TYO:7733) with a gain of 5.68%, and Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568), advancing by 5.22%.
On the downside, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003) experienced a decline of 6.54%, Fujitsu Ltd. (TYO:6702) decreased by 1.94%, and Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) dropped by 1.80%.
Overall, rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with shares in Kyocera Corp. (TYO:6971) reaching a 5-year high.
In the commodities market, crude oil for February delivery rose by 0.57% to $72.65 a barrel, and Brent oil for March delivery increased by 0.48% to $77.96 a barrel. Meanwhile, the February Gold Futures contract fell slightly by 0.07% to trade at $2,031.50 a troy ounce.
In the currency market, USD/JPY rose by 0.26% to 144.84, while EUR/JPY increased by 0.25% to 158.33.
The Nikkei Volatility, measuring the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose by 4.01% to 19.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures remained unchanged at 102.28.
