Japan Stocks Reach 5-Year High as Nikkei 225 Rises by 0.18%

In Friday’s trading session, Japan’s stocks saw positive momentum, with the Nikkei 225 achieving a 0.18% gain and hitting a new 5-year high at the close. The upswing was led by notable gains in the Communication, Financial Services, and Electrical/Machinery sectors.

Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803) emerged as the top performer on the Nikkei 225, soaring by 23.85% or 300.00 points to close at 1,558.00. Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (TYO:3105) also exhibited strong performance, adding 9.24% or 115.00 points to finish at 1,359.50. SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) recorded an 8.72% increase, gaining 641.00 points to reach 7,991.00 in the late trade.

Conversely, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (TYO:7201) faced a decline of 11.56%, dropping by 72.30 points to end at 553.10. Nikon Corp. (TYO:7731) experienced a 7.24% decrease, losing 111.50 points and concluding at 1,429.50. Teijin Ltd. (TYO:3401) saw a decline of 7.22%, with a loss of 97.50 points to close at 1,253.00.

The overall market dynamics on the Tokyo Stock Exchange showed 2,355 falling stocks, 1,314 advancing stocks, and 213 unchanged at the session’s close.

Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803) achieved a 5-year high, gaining 23.85% and reaching 1,558.00. Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (TYO:3105) also marked a 5-year high, rising by 9.24% and closing at 1,359.50. SoftBank Group Corp. (TYO:9984) reached a 52-week high, experiencing an 8.72% gain to finish at 7,991.00. Teijin Ltd. (TYO:3401) hit a 52-week low, declining by 7.22% and closing at 1,253.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, measuring the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, increased by 2.11% to reach 19.80.

In commodities trading, crude oil for March delivery declined by 0.08% to $76.16 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for April delivery fell by 0.20% to $81.47 a barrel. The April Gold Futures contract remained steady, with a minimal increase of 0.00% to trade at $2,047.95 a troy ounce.

The USD/JPY currency pair saw a 0.06% increase, reaching 149.40, while the EUR/JPY pair experienced a 0.01% decrease, closing at 160.92.

The US Dollar Index Futures recorded a slight increase of 0.03%, closing at 104.07.
