Japan Stocks Experience Decline at Market Close; Nikkei 225 Records 0.40% Drop

On Wednesday, Japan stocks faced a downturn at the close of trading, with losses predominantly observed in the Shipbuilding, Insurance, and Banking sectors, resulting in a 0.40% decrease in the Nikkei 225.

Closing in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 exhibited a 0.40% loss.

Top performers during the session on the Nikkei 225 included NEC Corp. (TYO:6701), marking a 3.85% rise or 383.00 points to close at 10,325.00. Additionally, Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:5801) saw a 2.98% increase or 87.00 points, ending at 3,006.00, while Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) rose by 2.41%, equivalent to 880.00 points, reaching 37,390.00 in late trade.

Conversely, the worst performers during the session included Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), experiencing a 3.74% decline or 250.00 points, closing at 6,431.00. Bandai Namco Holdings Inc (TYO:7832) recorded a 3.22% decrease or 93.00 points, concluding at 2,791.00, and Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4519) faced a 3.18% decline, amounting to 204.00 points, closing at 6,219.00.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange reported a larger count of falling stocks compared to advancing ones, with 2499 stocks declining, 1133 advancing, and 238 remaining unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, indicating the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, experienced a 0.05% increase, reaching 21.96, marking a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, crude oil for April delivery increased by 0.76% or 0.59, reaching $78.15 a barrel. Additionally, Brent oil for May delivery rose by 0.68% or 0.56, hitting $82.48 a barrel. The April Gold Futures contract fell by 0.08% or 1.65, closing at $2,164.45 a troy ounce.

The USD/JPY pair witnessed a 0.10% decrease, reaching 147.53, while the EUR/JPY pair faced a 0.08% decline, reaching 161.22.

The US Dollar Index Futures experienced a 0.04% decrease, closing at 102.51.
