CPPIB and Temasek Back Arrowpoint Hedge Fund Launch in Singapore

Arrowpoint Investment Partners, one of the notable hedge fund launches in Asia this year, has garnered significant backing from prominent investors, including the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Temasek Holdings of Singapore, and Blackstone.

The fund, based in Singapore, has received seed investments from these heavyweight investors, confirming their support as initial backers. Joo Lee, Arrowpoint’s co-founder and chief technology officer, announced this development on LinkedIn.

Jonathan Xiong, formerly the Asia co-CEO at Millennium Management, a major hedge fund firm, founded Arrowpoint. His departure from Millennium Management was noted in regulatory filings last September.

Arrowpoint is set to commence trading in July with a robust team of over 15 portfolio managers and has been actively recruiting staff in Hong Kong, according to insider sources familiar with the fund’s operations.

Earlier reports indicated that Arrowpoint had raised approximately $1 billion by February, underlining strong investor confidence in its multi-manager, multi-strategy approach. Such funds have gained favor among investors due to their potential for lower volatility and effective risk diversification.

The entry of Arrowpoint into the market is expected to heighten competition for talent in the region, challenging established hedge funds like Polymer Capital Management and Dymon Asia Capital.

As of now, Arrowpoint has not responded to requests for further comment on its operations or investment strategy.
