Palantir, Dell, and Erie Indemnity Set to Join S&P 500: Stocks Surge

Palantir Technologies (PLTR), Dell Technologies (DELL), and Erie Indemnity Co. (ERIE) will join the S&P 500 index before trading begins on Monday, September 23. All three stocks experienced notable gains late Friday, with Erie and possibly Palantir approaching new highs.

The new additions will replace American Airlines (AAL), Etsy (ETSY), and Bio-Rad Laboratories (BIO). American Airlines and Bio-Rad will move to the S&P MidCap 400, while Etsy will transition to the S&P SmallCap 600. Both American Airlines and Etsy saw slight declines late Friday, with Bio-Rad remaining inactive.

Palantir surged 7.9% to $32.71, nearing its three-year high, and ended up 0.6% on Friday, holding above its 21-day line. Dell stock jumped 5% in after-hours trading, recovering above its 200-day line but still below its 50-day. Dell’s shares had dropped 11.7% earlier in the week. Erie Indemnity gained 2.9%, reaching a record high, despite a 0.4% decline for the week, closing at $506.30.
