£. The British pound is the name of the national currency and monetary unit of the United Kingdom. Although the UK is a member of the European Union, it has not yet joined the euro . The front of the 50 pounds is the head of Queen Elizabeth II, and the one in the watermark is not wearing a crown. On the back of the £50 is a portrait of John Houblon, the first president of the Bank of England, and at the back is John Houblon’s residence in Threadneedle Street (literally translated as Needle Street). The little figure on the left reads The Bank gatekeeper (the bank’s gatekeeper).
