50 pence back
50 pence front
50 pence, with the image on the back of the patron saint of England sitting on the back of a lion, the Goddess of Britannia, wearing a helmet, holding an olive branch in her left hand and a trident in her right. The pattern first appeared on the halfpenny and quarterpenny copper coins issued in 1672. Appearing on the penny since 1797 and on various coins from the reigns of the seven monarchs.
The current British pound coins in circulation have been issued since 1985, with 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 pence and 1, 2 pounds. The design pattern of pound 1 is frequently updated, with a variety of patterns, and the pound 2 is a commemorative coin in circulation. The obverse of various coins is cast with the head of Queen Elizabeth II, and the right side of the queen is cast with “D·G·REG·F·D”, which is the Latin abbreviation for “the grace of the Holy Queen, the defender of religious beliefs”. On the back is the traditional British coat of arms.
