5 pence back
5 pence front
5p, with the Scottish coat of arms on the reverse, and a two-leaf thistle holding a crown. Thistle is the symbol of Scotland. This pattern has been used on many Scottish coins since James VI.
The current British pound coins in circulation have been issued since 1985, with 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 pence and 1, 2 pounds. The design pattern of pound 1 is frequently updated, with a variety of patterns, and the pound 2 is a commemorative coin in circulation. The obverse of various coins is cast with the head of Queen Elizabeth II, and the right side of the queen is cast with “D·G·REG·F·D”, which is the Latin abbreviation for “the grace of the Holy Queen, the defender of religious beliefs”. On the back is the traditional British coat of arms.
