Ammonia oxidation is the main way to make nitric acid in industrial production. The main process is to pass the mixture of ammonia and air (oxygen: nitrogen ¡Ö 2:1) into a hot platinum-rhodium alloy mesh (760-840 ¡æ). Under the catalysis of the mesh, ammonia is oxidized to nitric oxide (NO).
