RS rating is a patent rating used to compare the price performance of a particular stock relative to the rest of the market over the past year (52 weeks).
RS ratings range from 1 to 99, with higher values indicating better stock performance. An RS rating of 99 means the stock has outperformed 99% of the market over the course of the year.
A stock that has a Relative Price Strength (RS) rating below 70 is considered a laggard behind the leader. That doesn’t mean its share price won’t rise — just that if it does, the rise will be small.
From the 1900s through the early 1950s through 2000, the market’s best stock price performers each year had an average RS rating of 87 before their stock prices soared.
