On March 15th, according to The Guardian, the UK Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, made a 180-degree turn on plans to cut household energy subsidies, which were previously warned would leave thousands of families in poverty.
In a statement during Sunak’s budget speech in the morning, the UK government confirmed that the energy price cap will remain at its current level, limiting typical household annual bills to £2,500.
The measure will be extended for three months until the end of June, originally due to expire in April. This means that from April, average household energy bills will not increase to the previously planned £3,000 per year.
