On April 12, local time, the Press Office of the Central Bank of Iraq issued a statement stating that Ali Mohsen, Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, held talks with representatives of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank during its 2023 spring annual meeting.
Discussions between the Iraqi delegation and IMF representatives related to Iraq’s future financing options, including the IMF’s technical and advisory support for the economic reforms the Iraqi government is implementing to achieve financial and currency stability in the country.
During the talks, the two sides agreed to draft an agreement on the plan and prepare to implement it in the next few days.
Mohsen called on the International Monetary Fund to support the necessary procedures implemented by the Central Bank of Iraq to achieve exchange rate stability in accordance with international practice and previous agreements between Iraq and the organization.
