Japan’s Nikkei 225 Slips 0.64% in Monday Trading Session

The Japanese stock market concluded Monday’s trading session on a downward note, with the Nikkei 225 experiencing a 0.64% decline. The negative trend was notably influenced by losses in the Rubber, Real Estate, and Retail sectors.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 settled at a 0.64% loss.

Among the session’s top performers on the Nikkei 225 was Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8766), registering an impressive 5.71% increase. The stock gained 200.00 points to conclude at 3,700.00 by the closing bell. Additionally, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003) demonstrated strength, adding 5.14% or 25.00 points, finishing at 511.00. Panasonic Corp (TYO:6752) closed with a gain of 4.78%, up 71.50 points, reaching 1,568.50 in the late trading period.

Conversely, Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261) faced a downturn, marking a 5.88% drop. The stock lost 105.00 points to settle at 1,681.50. Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9007) experienced a decline of 4.17%, shedding 94.50 points, concluding at 2,172.00. MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings (TYO:8725) also registered a 3.93% decrease, losing 220.00 points to reach 5,380.00.

Market dynamics revealed that rising stocks marginally surpassed declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with 1848 gaining, 1803 declining, and 225 remaining unchanged.

Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8766) reached all-time highs, surging by 5.71% or 200.00 points to 3,700.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, reflecting the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, witnessed a 2.51% decrease, settling at 18.28, marking a new 1-month low.

In commodity trading, January delivery crude oil rose by 1.05% or 0.80 to $76.84 per barrel. Meanwhile, January-delivery Brent oil recorded a 1.00% increase, reaching $81.42 per barrel. December Gold Futures experienced a marginal decline of 0.09% or 1.85, settling at $1,982.85 per troy ounce.

Currency-wise, USD/JPY showed a 0.30% decrease, reaching 149.16, while EUR/JPY experienced a 0.25% decline, closing at 162.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures exhibited a 0.18% decrease, concluding the session at 103.61.
