Difference between natural gas and gas

In recent years, with the continuous development of natural gas, the gas used in many residents’ homes has been replaced by natural gas. What is the difference between natural gas and gas? Why do some people say natural gas is better than gas?

The common features of gas and natural gas are that they are easy to use, clean and dust-free, and they are both imported into the home through gas pipelines. Therefore, many people mistakenly believe that gas and natural gas are the same gas. In fact, gas and natural gas are not only very different in composition and source, but also in their properties. Coal gas is produced by chemical reactions in factories with coal as the main raw material, and its main components are carbon monoxide, hydrogen and methane. Among them, carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas, and what is commonly called gas poisoning actually refers to carbon monoxide poisoning. Moreover, gas is easy to form explosive mixture with air, so great attention should be paid to it when using it. Natural gas mostly comes from natural oil field gas, which is transformed from organic matter hundreds of millions of years ago, and the main component is methane.

As domestic gas, natural gas has obvious advantages over coal gas. First of all, the calorific value of natural gas when burning is much higher than that of gas (that is, the heat released when burning is more than that of gas), and the time required for residents to cook water with natural gas can be shortened by half compared with gas. Secondly, natural gas is of high purity, 95% of which is methane, burns completely, does not contain toxic and harmful impurities such as carbon monoxide and sulfide, and has no pungent odor. It is a relatively safe gas. Finally, the use of natural gas can expand the pressure range of the gas pipeline, so that the gas supply is more abundant, and the service life of the pipeline can be greatly extended.
