Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd., which rose by 3.06%, Fujitsu Ltd. with a 2.44% increase, and TDK Corp, up by 2.15%.
Conversely, Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. experienced a decline of 6.49%, Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. fell by 4.85%, and Resona Holdings, Inc. dropped by 3.75%.
The ratio of falling stocks to rising ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was 2505 to 1165, with 210 ending unchanged.
Fujitsu Ltd. reached a 5-year high during the session, rising 2.44%, while Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. hit a 3-year low, experiencing a 4.85% decline.
In the commodities market, crude oil for January delivery increased by 0.83%, trading at $71.91 per barrel. Meanwhile, gold for February delivery rose by 0.46%, reaching $2,002.90 per troy ounce.
The USD/JPY pair declined by 0.51%, trading at 145.41, and the EUR/JPY pair fell by 0.47%, reaching 156.60.
The US Dollar Index Futures dropped by 0.17%, settling at 103.53.
