Japan stocks ended lower on Thursday, with losses in the Power, Gas & Water, and Warehousing sectors leading the decline. At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.62%.
Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), rising 3.81%, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104), gaining 2.47%, and Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911), up 2.36%.
Conversely, the worst performers included Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (TYO:7911), falling 5.10%, Mazda Motor Corp (TYO:7261), down 4.10%, and Toyota Motor Corp (TYO:7203), declining 4.03%.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2766 to 892, with 222 ending unchanged. The Nikkei Volatility, measuring implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.17% to 16.71.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery fell 0.16%, while Brent oil for February delivery dropped 0.10%. February Gold Futures remained unchanged.
The USD/JPY was down 0.31% to 143.11, while the EUR/JPY fell 0.29% to 156.64. The US Dollar Index Futures declined 0.05% to 101.98.
