Japan stocks closed lower, with the Nikkei 225 declining by 0.42%. Losses in the Rubber, Insurance, and Fishery sectors contributed to the market’s downward movement.
DIC Corp (TYO:4631) was among the best performers, rising by 5.42% or 138.50 points to close at 2,694.00.
Unitika, Ltd. (TYO:3103) added 2.96% or 5.00 points, ending the session at 174.00.
Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (TYO:5707) gained 2.66% or 29.00 points, closing at 1,119.00.
On the other hand, Trend Micro Inc. (TYO:4704) was among the worst performers, falling by 6.18% or 500.00 points to close at 7,592.00. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) declined by 3.92% or 249.00 points, ending at 6,101.00, while Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101) was down 3.46% or 157.00 points, closing at 4,384.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones, with 2562 gaining, 1148 declining, and 174 ending unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, measuring the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.78% to 16.90.
In commodities, crude oil for February delivery was down 0.03% to $74.09 a barrel. Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.03% to $79.56 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.09% to $2,094.90 a troy ounce.
The USD/JPY pair was down 0.45% to 141.18, and the EUR/JPY pair fell 0.44% to 156.81.
The US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.10% at 100.55.
