Mixed Closing for U.S. Stocks; Dow Hits New All-Time High

Thursday’s trading session on Wall Street concluded with a mixed performance as gains in the Telecoms, Utilities, and Financials sectors propelled certain indices higher, while losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Goods, and Basic Materials sectors led others lower.

At the close on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up by 0.14%, reaching a new all-time high. The S&P 500 index posted a modest gain of 0.04%, while the NASDAQ Composite index experienced a slight decline of 0.03%.

Among the top performers on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), rising 1.60% to 108.84, 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), gaining 0.89% to 109.71, and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), up 0.78% to 108.82.

Conversely, Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was among the session’s worst performers, falling 1.39% to 149.80, along with Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which declined 0.86% to 55.23, and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), down 0.73% to 50.39.

On the S&P 500, top performers included Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH), rising 2.57% to 36.73, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD), up 1.84% to 148.76, and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD), gaining 1.74% to close at 11.69.

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) was among the S&P 500’s worst performers, experiencing a 3.16% decline to 253.18. APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) lost 2.88% to settle at 36.10, and Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) was down 2.58% to 144.74 at the close.

On the NASDAQ Composite, Nova Lifestyle I (NASDAQ:NVFY) surged by 203.23% to 4.70, Sidus Space Inc (NASDAQ:SIDU) climbed 163.16% to settle at 11.50, and Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) gained 146.12% to close at 9.82.

Bluejay Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:BJDX) was among the NASDAQ’s worst performers, with a 34.17% decline to 1.19. Meihua International Medical Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ:MHUA) lost 33.95% to settle at 1.79, and Riskon International Inc (NASDAQ:ROI) was down 33.72% to 0.28 at the close.

The New York Stock Exchange saw more falling stocks than advancing ones, with 1519 declining, 1363 advancing, and 91 remaining unchanged. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1766 stocks fell, 1648 advanced, and 126 ended unchanged.

Shares in Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) reached 52-week highs, rising 1.84% to 148.76, while shares in Bluejay Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:BJDX) hit all-time lows, falling 34.17% to 1.19.

The CBOE Volatility Index, measuring implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.32% to 12.47.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery declined by 0.80% or 16.80 to $2,076.30 a troy ounce. Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.87% or 2.13 to $71.98 a barrel, and the March Brent oil contract dropped 2.68% or 2.13 to trade at $77.41 a barrel.

EUR/USD remained unchanged at 1.11, while USD/JPY fell 0.32% to 141.37. The US Dollar Index Futures rose by 0.27% to 100.92.
