Nikkei 225 Gains 0.40% in Tokyo, Fueled by Mining and Chemical Sectors

Japanese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the Nikkei 225 index rising by 0.40%, driven by positive performances in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, and Glass sectors.

At the end of the trading day in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 showed a 0.40% increase.

Top performers on the Nikkei 225 included Konami Corp. (TYO:9766), registering a 4.26% gain, equivalent to 322.00 points, closing at 7,874.00. Additionally, Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004) climbed by 4.22%, adding 120.50 points to reach 2,978.00. Nomura Holdings Inc (TYO:8604) experienced a 4.16% increase, or 26.70 points, concluding the session at 669.20.

Conversely, LY Corp (TYO:4689) saw a decline of 2.38%, or 11.80 points, settling at 483.30. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911) dropped by 2.18%, or 94.00 points, closing at 4,212.00, while Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506) experienced a 1.67% decrease, losing 96.00 points to reach 5,650.00.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange witnessed 1847 rising stocks, 1840 declining stocks, and 203 unchanged stocks.

Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004) reached a 52-week high, gaining 4.22% or 120.50 points, closing at 2,978.00. Nomura Holdings Inc (TYO:8604) also reached a 52-week high, with a 4.16% increase, or 26.70 points, concluding at 669.20.

The Nikkei Volatility, indicating the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, increased by 7.04%, reaching 18.69.

In commodities trading, crude oil for February delivery increased by 0.82% or 0.59, closing at $72.78 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for March delivery rose by 0.64% or 0.50, hitting $78.09 a barrel. The February Gold Futures contract experienced a marginal decline of 0.04% or 0.80, settling at $2,049.20 a troy ounce.

In currency markets, USD/JPY witnessed a 0.38% increase, reaching 145.17, while EUR/JPY rose by 0.22%, closing at 158.66.

The US Dollar Index Futures exhibited a 0.18% gain, concluding at 102.32.
