Japan stocks closed higher on Monday, with the Nikkei 225 gaining 0.28% and setting a new all-time high. The upward momentum was driven by increases in the Shipbuilding, Precision Instruments, and Paper & Pulp sectors.
Closing at the end of the session in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 reached a new record high. Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4519), posting a notable increase of 6.37%, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7012) and TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332), which rose by 4.44% and 4.30%, respectively.
Conversely, Nexon Co Ltd (TYO:3659) experienced a decline of 3.49%, while Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) and Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (TYO:2502) recorded decreases of 3.47% and 2.69%, respectively.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange witnessed more rising stocks than declining ones, with 2168 gaining, 1485 losing, and 241 ending unchanged.
Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4519) reached all-time highs during the session, surging 6.37% to close at 6,008.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, measuring the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, decreased by 4.82% to 19.56.
In commodity trading, crude oil for April delivery dipped 0.30% to $76.26 a barrel, while Brent oil for May delivery fell 0.26% to $80.59 a barrel. The April Gold Futures contract experienced a 0.33% decline, closing at $2,042.65 per troy ounce.
In currency markets, USD/JPY decreased by 0.04% to 150.43, and EUR/JPY fell by 0.08% to 162.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures inched up by 0.01% to 103.87.
