On Thursday, Japan’s stock market witnessed a downturn as the Shipbuilding, Power, and Fishery sectors faced losses, pulling shares lower.
The Nikkei 225 index closed with a decline of 1.57% at the end of trading in Tokyo.
Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803) emerged as one of the session’s top performers on the Nikkei 225, with a rise of 2.95%, or 64.00 points, closing at 2,232.50. Similarly, Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5214) recorded a gain of 2.52%, or 95.00 points, ending the session at 3,861.00, while Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (TYO:8830) witnessed an increase of 2.51%, or 138.00 points, reaching 5,640.00 by the session’s close.
Conversely, Obayashi Corp. (TYO:1802) stood out as one of the day’s worst performers, experiencing a decline of 5.04%, or 95.00 points, finishing at 1,790.00. Nissui Corp (TYO:1332) also faced a downturn, sliding by 5.01%, or 49.90 points, to settle at 946.30, while Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (TYO:8253) saw a decrease of 4.93%, or 161.00 points, closing at 3,108.00.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange reported a greater number of falling stocks compared to advancing ones, with 2827 stocks declining, 900 advancing, and 147 remaining unchanged.

(TYO:5214) attained five-year highs, rising by 2.52% or 95.00 points to 3,861.00. Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (TYO:8830) also achieved all-time highs, increasing by 2.51% or 138.00 points to 5,640.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, indicating the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, witnessed a decrease of 1.84%, reaching 18.72.
In commodity trading, crude oil for May delivery rose by 0.58%, or 0.47, to $81.82 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for June delivery increased by 0.47%, or 0.40, reaching $85.81 a barrel. The June Gold Futures contract rose by 0.24%, or 5.40, trading at $2,218.10 a troy ounce.
The USD/JPY exchange rate remained stable at 151.32, while the EUR/JPY fell slightly by 0.04% to 163.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures saw a marginal increase of 0.02%, reaching 104.08.
