On Friday, Japan’s stock market witnessed a downturn, with losses in sectors such as Power, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, and Mining driving shares lower.
At the close of trading in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index dropped by 2.53%, hitting a fresh one-month low.
Among the top performers on the Nikkei 225 were Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568), which saw a rise of 2.20% or 100.00 points to reach 4,641.00 at the close. Additionally, Kao Corp. (TYO:4452) climbed by 1.59% or 98.00 points, closing at 6,280.00, while Toho Co., Ltd. (TYO:9602) experienced a gain of 1.47% or 78.00 points, ending the session at 5,412.00.
Conversely, the worst performers included Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035), which plummeted by 8.74% or 3,210.00 points to settle at 33,550.00 at the close. Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) declined by 8.42% or 3,160.00 points, concluding the session at 34,310.00, and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) fell by 6.95% or 1,255.00 points, reaching 16,810.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, with 3425 stocks falling, 355 rising, and 101 remaining unchanged.
Kao Corp. (TYO:4452) saw its shares reaching a 52-week high, rising by 1.59% or 98.00 points to 6,280.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which gauges the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, rose by 3.08% to 22.77, marking a new three-month high.
In commodities trading, crude oil for May delivery increased by 1.47% or 1.22 to $83.95 a barrel. Brent oil for delivery in June rose by 1.43% or 1.25 to reach $88.36 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell by 0.05% or 1.20 to trade at $2,396.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY fell by 0.16% to 154.38, while EUR/JPY dropped by 0.26% to 164.17.
The US Dollar Index Futures increased by 0.07% to 106.06.
