Japanese stocks experienced significant gains at the close of trading on Wednesday, propelled by notable increases in the Power, Gas & Water, and Transportation Equipment sectors.
The Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo concluded the session with an impressive surge of 2.26%.
Among the standout performers on the Nikkei 225 were Renesas Electronics Corp (TYO:6723), which soared by 10.54% or 240.50 points to reach 2,520.50 by the close. Similarly, Nikon Corp. (TYO:7731) surged by 10.33% or 161.50 points to finish at 1,726.00, while Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) climbed 7.11% or 2,310.00 points, settling at 34,720.00 in late trading.
Conversely, the session saw some decliners, with Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004) experiencing an 8.65% or 321.00-point drop to close at 3,397.00. IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) also witnessed a decline of 5.70% or 219.00 points, finishing at 3,616.00, while Asahi Kasei Corp. (TYO:3407) slipped 2.27% or 25.00 points to 1,075.00.
On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones by a significant margin, with 2508 stocks rising, 1100 falling, and 259 remaining unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility index, which gauges the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, decreased by 4.43% to 20.72.
In commodity markets, crude oil for June delivery registered a modest uptick of 0.20%, reaching $83.53 a barrel. Similarly, Brent oil for June delivery saw a slight increase of 0.19%, hitting $88.59 a barrel. However, the June Gold Futures contract experienced a marginal decline of 0.15%, reaching $2,338.70 per troy ounce.
The USD/JPY pair recorded a slight increase of 0.07%, reaching 154.93, while the EUR/JPY pair rose by 0.04% to 165.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures witnessed a modest increase of 0.07%, closing at 105.57.
