Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda emphasized on Thursday that the central bank would closely monitor the recent declines in the yen as part of its guidance for monetary policy.
During a parliamentary session, Ueda highlighted concerns over sharp and one-sided depreciations of the yen, deeming them detrimental to the economy. Such currency movements pose challenges for companies in formulating business strategies, he elaborated.
Ueda stressed that if currency volatility undermines or threatens to undermine trend inflation, the Bank of Japan must take appropriate action through monetary policy measures.
