A fire erupted at an oil depot in Proletarsk, located in Russia’s Rostov Oblast, following a drone strike during the night of August 18, according to reports from Governor Vasily Golubev and Russian Telegram news channels.
Rostov Oblast, which shares a border with Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, has been a frequent target of drone attacks, as stated by local authorities.
Governor Golubev reported that Russian air defense units managed to repel the drone attack, but debris from the interception struck an industrial warehouse, igniting a fire in a diesel fuel storage area. The firefighting efforts were disrupted by subsequent attacks, although no casualties were reported.
Later on August 18, Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the strike in a Facebook post, stating that the depot stored oil and petroleum products intended for the Russian occupation forces.
Ukrainian forces have been conducting regular drone strikes and sabotage operations on Russian territory, specifically targeting military assets, oil refineries, and industrial facilities.
