Taiwan’s stock market ended Thursday’s session on a positive note, with the Taiwan Weighted Index rising by 0.43%. The uptick was primarily driven by strong performances in the Information Services, Optoelectronics, and Machinery sectors.
Among the top gainers was Jenn Feng New Energy Co Ltd (TW:1538), which saw its stock surge by 70.12%, adding 11.92 points to close at 28.92. This marked a five-year high for the company. Epileds Technologies Inc (TW:4956) also posted a notable gain, rising 10.00%, or 3.35 points, to finish at 36.85, while Microtek International Inc (TW:2305) mirrored this increase, up by 10.00%, or 1.45 points, to close at 15.95.
On the downside, Shin Tai Industry Co Ltd (TW:1235) recorded the largest loss of the session, falling 6.19% or 5.10 points to settle at 77.30. Arima Communications Corp (TW:8101) saw a decline of 4.23%, dropping 0.80 points to close at 18.10, and Kuangli Photoelectric Technology Co Ltd (TW:6431) fell 3.44%, losing 0.50 points to finish at 14.05.
Despite the overall positive trend, decliners outnumbered advancers on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, with no specific sector or stock grouping showing a clear pattern of dominance.
In commodities, crude oil for February delivery rose by 0.11%, or 0.08, to reach $70.18 per barrel. Brent oil for March delivery gained 0.08%, or 0.06, closing at $73.23 per barrel. The February Gold Futures contract saw a modest increase, up 0.19%, or 4.94, to settle at $2,640.44 per troy ounce.
Currency markets saw the USD/TWD exchange rate rise by 0.20% to 32.74, while the TWD/CNY was little changed, up by 0.18% to 0.22. The US Dollar Index Futures fell slightly by 0.08%, closing at 107.94.
