Difference between crude oil and petroleum:
- Oil in a narrow sense refers to crude oil.In a broad sense, oil is a big concept;
- rude oil is extracted during petroleum processing and refining.Crude oil is extracted from an oil field without any treatment.Crude oil is crude oil.Petroleum is a component of crude oil from which it is extracted;
- The epitaxy of crude oil is different from that of petroleum in that one epitaxy is narrow and the other is wide.The former refers only to the original oil extracted from the formation, without any processing and refining;The latter refers to combustible oily material extracted from the formation.Before and after processing, we can call it “petroleum”, but after processing petroleum products.According to their characteristics and uses, they have been given more accurate names, such as “gasoline“, “diesel“, “lubricating oil”, “asphalt”, etc., in order to distinguish them
Crude petroleum, as we used to call it, is a dark brown, thick, oily liquid with a fluorescent green color and a distinctive smell. It is a mixture of liquid hydrocarbons such as alkanes, cycloalkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons and alkenes.
Petroleum, a thick, dark brown liquid known as the “blood of industry,” is a mixture of alkanes, cycloalkanes and aromatic hydrocarbons.
The problem with crude oil is that it contains hundreds of different types of hydrocarbons, all mixed together.
Different kinds of hydrocarbons need to be separated to extract useful substances.
Fortunately, there is an easy way to separate these substances: oil refining.
The process of petroleum refining begins with a fractionator.As the length of the chain increases, the boiling point of the hydrocarbon increases, so that it can be completely separated by distillation.This is what happens in refineries — as part of the refining process, crude oil is heated and hydrocarbon chains of different engths are separated at different evaporation temperatures.Chains of different lengths have different properties, corresponding to different uses, so that oil can be extracted from crude oil.
